Enter the details of any materials that students are allowed to refer to during their exam.
- Select the ‘Exams’ then ‘Search Exams’ from the left-hand side navigation.
- Hit the linked Exam Name to edit the settings.
- Hit the pen icon in the top-right corner of the Permitted Materials group to edit.
- Use the check boxes to select any materials that students are allowed to use.
- Use the ‘Notes’ text field to enter details relating to the selections you have made.
Notes
These notes will be used by exam invigilators before the start of the exam when they check items that students elect to use. Notes should be clear but succinct. Try and use consistent phrasing for explanatory notes on permitted materials across all exams where identical requirements are used.
Calculators
If only calculators on the student’s computer may be used, specify which modes are acceptable, eg: Standard, Scientific, Graphing, Programmer.
The option ‘Non-programmable Calculator’ refers either to a specific type of handheld calculator, or the only mode in which the computer calculator can be used.
The option ‘Scientific Calculator’ refers either to a specific type of handheld calculator, or the only mode in which the computer calculator can be used.
Notes for Notes
In most cases, English-only language should be specified.
Handwritten Notes
Specify what size paper, eg: A4 or A5; how sheets of paper; one-sided or two-sided.
For example: Handwritten Notes: 2 double-sided, A4 sheets.
Information Sheet
Generally a digital file that is provided to the students for download.
Typed Notes
Specify whether these should be digital (on their computer) or printed out, or either. Specify what size paper, eg: A4 or A5; how sheets of paper; one-sided or two-sided; font size.
For example: Typed Notes: A4 paper, 12-point font. Hardcopy: 4 single-sided sheets. Digital: 4 pages.
Programs
If computer programs other than Microsoft Word or Excel are allowed to be used, they must be specified in the Notes section. Provide sufficient detail to cover all possible acceptable variations of use.
For example: Excel is allowed to do workings. It must be open with one new, blank worksheet. No other files may be open.
Reference Materials
For each allowed publication, provide adequate identifying details, eg: Author, Title, Publication Year(s), Edition(s).
