Recommended lead times and methodologies for delivering support materials to students before an exam.
At least one week before the exam
Preparation and support materials can be provided early on. For example: a copy of your exam rules, introducing students to invigilatorPlus, explaining what it is, how to set up their exam room and the minimum technical requirements. We recommend at least one week prior to the exam.
48 hours before the exam
- Provide link to invigilatorPlus
- Provide information on how to access technical support
We recommend allowing students to access invigilatorPlus from 48 hours prior to their exam so that they may run an Exam System Check to ensure that their computer set-up is working properly and that the invigilatorPlus browser extension has been installed. This means that student accounts should be created on invigilatorPlus and a link to invigilatorPlus added to the LMS at least 48 hours prior to Exam Start time.
A student can run the Exam System Check once their account has been created on invigilatorPlus and link has been made between the LMS and invigilatorPlus. The exam set-up and student assignment to exams do not need to be complete for students to access invigilatorPlus and run the Exam System Check.
Technical support for students will not be available prior to 48 hours before Exam Start time so if the Exam System Check is made available earlier than this, you must warn students that they won’t be able to contact Help and Support until that time.
Introducing the use of invigilatorPlus for assessments
These slides may be customised and used when presenting details of an upcoming assessment delivered via invigilatorPlus to students. It covers:
- Assessment time and date
- What the invigilator will be able to see and hear during the exam
- Basic preparation steps: rules; testing devices; materials; IDs; phone
- Technical requirements
Incentives to encourage students to prepare to use invigilatorPlus
We recommend requiring students to complete a compulsory assessment with the link to the Exam System Check, so that most students test their computer set-up prior to exam day. This is designed to minimise Technical Support requests on exam day. You may wish to allocate a 1% mark to this assessment, or make it a hurdle requirement, to provide an incentive for students complete it.
Alternatively, you can make an associated item of exam study content available only on completion of this assessment as another form of incentive.
